Home Stand Ends- Now For Our Second Act..
GET READY TO GO!
|
White (in white) pitches to Green of the Red Hawks. The Angels wrapped up their home SF State games with a sweep. Now the road! |
Sunday June 22, 11am, doubleheader (9&9inns) at
San Francisco State, Maloney Field
against the Lake County RedHawks. One last chance to sweep at the home
field succeeded, 4-3 in 11 innings in the opener and 8-5 in the
nightcap. In the first game, Keian Davis walked and scored the winning run
on a Mike Mukuno single, after Colin Stewart had bunted Davis to second
base. Davis reached base in all five plate appearances as the #9 hitter in
the lineup.
These lovely Loves love the Angels.
Saturday June 21, 11am, doubleheader (9&7inns) at San Francisco State, Maloney Field against the Fairfield Indians. The Indians are in 1st place in the Northern Division, with a shot at the league title. Latest results: a split, as the Angels trounce the Indians in the first game, and then let victory slip away in the extra-inning second game. The home team had air superiority through the power of the heavenly hosts against the earthbound natives, who nevertheless held together to force a split.

For the weekend, the Angels outhit their opponents 55 to 29. But the inability to easily put away games at home, and the hobbling into extra innings shows that the team is not quite ready to face the competition of the NBC regional tournaments in Southern California.
Saturday's games did result in a league record of 17-3 for the Angels, with only one regular league game left (plus a suspended lead at the end of another game). They are solidly in first place and in position to clinch a bye into the AABC Stan Musial division NorCal sectionals, from the results of other teams' games.
The Angels have now completed the "first half" of this unique season with an approximate record of 30-8. In the second half, the Angels are almost entirely on the road, involved in long barnstorming trips, tournaments, and playoffs.
