San Francisco Angels Wood Bat Baseball Team Recap of prior 2003 games- Weekend of June 7 & 8 |
Team in Crisis as League Record Falls to 15-1
ANGELS LOSE !
![]() |
June 8, Vacaville, California. After easily winning the first game of a doubleheader, the Angels lost Sunday's second game against the Vacaville Dodgers. Details were botched by a 5-year-old scorekeeper in Bombay, India who works during the week as a customer service representative for SBC. But after the team's league record dropped to 15-1, a spokesman for the Angels announced that the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Angels Wood Bat Baseball Team were holding an emergency session to discuss "personnel issues." Speculation is that long-time manager Roland Nazar will be dumped in favor of younger, more energetic leadership, following Sunday's loss in Vacaville. Sons Roland Jr, Mike, and Matt have the Nazar name, which remains popular among senior citizen baby boomers, but these younger Nazars would also provide a boost of energy to the lagging team, which had previously lost as recently as two weeks ago in Salinas. When informed of the rumors, Roland Sr. replied, "What do these bastards want from me, I'm not a player, we just won 12 straight games. And now they're threatening patricide. Anyway, this is the travel director's fault, bunching up all these league games. Look, my wife's from Puerto Rico, and some team from San Juan, saying they're "the ex-pros" or something, they've been calling me. They claim to have major league money. Well, screw this volunteer work, I'm ready to pack my bags!"

Saturday's Doubleheader at Lampe Field: Angels 11 Nevada Yankees 5 Angels 2 Nevada Yankees 1
Despite an acute shortage of players, the Angels dominated the Nevada Yankees in the first game of a doubleheader. Jerame Nelson pitched a complete game, coach Doug Price went 1-for-4, Brad Shannon hit another homerun, catcher Dave Robinson tore his knee up bad. Wiped out with four strikeouts in the first two innings, the top of the Angels order delivered three runs in the 3rd inning to tie the game. Shannon's 5th inning homer put the Angels ahead to stay. They padded a 6-4 lead in the 9th with five runs for a final score of 11-5.
In the second game confrontation of minimalist teams, Angels pitcher Christian Aguirre, who had been having mound trouble lately, dominated the Yankees in a complete game, 7-inning win, 2-1. Aguirre allowed just 4 hits and a walk. Both sides avoided confrontations, since each team had only nine players. The Angels ran their record in league competition to 14-0.
With centerfielder Tom Shannon (headed to Fresno State) in both games as the leadoff hitter and catcher Brad Shannon (Sonoma State) lodged as the cleanup hitter, the two Fresno brothers went 8-for-17 in the doubleheader. Brad walloped the homerun in the first game and stroked two doubles in the second. Right fielder Chris Scrogings (SF State) drove in three runs in the first game. click here for box scores & play-by-play
